Built 6/9/69, and delivered to Hoffman Motors of New York City. One of only 2,124 automatic-transmission early (round taillight) 2002s officially imported into the US, making this model very rare here. A survivor, it was found with its original owner in the desert above LA several years ago by someone searching for VW buses, who bought it on the spot and brought it to us. We bought it from him as soon as we saw it, and chose not to restore it but instead clear-coat the rust and leave it otherwise just the way we got it (after completely going through it mechanically to make it a reliable daily-driver and sometime loaner). It's also very popular with movie shoots and commercials, due to it's appearance.
