Story Behind the Vehicle

Intro

2005 Porsche Boxster S (987), Black over Stone-Grey interior, soft top, 6-speed manual, 93,747 miles and two previous owners. The seller installed full leather Porsche seats. The car was purchased new in San Jose, California, and the second owner also lived in San Jose. Per the seller, it was a weekend car for both previous owners and has been garaged since new. The current owner purchased it on February 12, 2011, with 39,000 miles on the odometer. Over 15 years of ownership, the seller has carried out a series of upgrades and restorations, detailed below. All service during his ownership has been performed by one second-generation Porsche specialist. Several body panels have been refinished, and the Carfax reports minor damage. It has a clear title and is in California.

Exterior

The exterior is Black with a gray power soft top. The seller states both doors, the rear clamshell panel (which covers the top when lowered), and the right rear quarter panel retain their original paint. The front and rear bumpers, hood, front fenders, left rear quarter panel, and rear deck lid have been professionally refinished. Seller states there was no structural damage. It rides on factory 19-inch Sport Design wheels, a roughly $3,000 option in 2005. Per the seller, the wheels are forged BBS units and, within the last 2,000 miles, all four were trued, stripped, and custom-refinished. Tires are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, with approximately 70% tread remaining front and 40% rear. The power soft top was replaced about three years ago with all-new factory parts, including the top, all rubber seals, weatherstripping, and headliner. Additional work after installation brought the total cost to just under $14,000.

Interior

The seats are full Stone-Gray leather. The car includes its factory original floor mats, an additional unused set still in plastic (no longer available from Porsche), and Porsche factory storage compartment liners. The car does not have heated seats. Seller states all gauges and AC are functional.

Mechanicals

This 2005 Boxster S is powered by a mid-mounted 3.2-liter DOHC 24-valve flat six, rated at 280 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 236 lb-ft of torque at 4,700 rpm, paired here with a 6-speed manual transmission. The 987 retains hydraulic power steering, and the Boxster S carries factory Brembo brakes. Upgrades include KW Variant 3 fully adjustable coilover suspension, a Racing Dynamics strut brace, an RS 60 Spyder exhaust, and a Porsche factory short shifter with all-new shift cables. Seller states only the highest-grade synthetic lubricants used. The seller reports the drivetrain is smooth, with no whining from the transaxle, and no squeaks or rattles in the body or top. The intermediate shaft (IMS) bearing is original, as disclosed below.

Seller Comments

This car was a weekend toy for both previous owners and has been garaged since new. I have complete records of ownership since 2011. As a former concours judge, I maintained this car to a concours level. My mechanic, a second-generation Porsche specialist and the only person to work on the car, is always expressing amazement at how dry the undercarriage is no oil leaks of any kind. The KW V3 suspension is fully sorted to my taste: planted, stable, firm, and well damped, never harsh, with a comfortable ride and still corners as if on rails. The new top took three years to get fully sorted, but it is all new from the top of the doors up and fits like a custom-made tux. The drivetrain is smooth as silk, the transaxle is quiet, and there are no squeaks or rattles. All spare parts, random clips, covers, suspension tuning records, regalia, and all records are included in the sale.
