Intro

1967 BMW 1600-2 vintage race car inspired by the iconic Heidegger Racing Team 1975 Le Mans-winning BMW 2002 Group 2 car. This early-production 1600-2 car was acquired by the current owner in 2015 and has since undergone substantial race preparation, mechanical refurbishment, and continuous development to create a competitive, reliable, and visually striking HSR-ready vintage racer. It is build number 15,307 out of total 1602 production of 266,612 units built between 1966 and 1975, and car number 2,063 produced during the 1967 model year. The car wears a period-inspired white Le Mans-style livery with BMW Motorsport tri-color striping modeled after the 1974 Le Mans winning Heidegger Racing Team Group 2 cars. The total mileage is unknown. This vehicle has a clear title and is in Georgia.

Exterior

The exterior is painted in white livery with tri-color stripes inspired by Heidegger Racing Team’s 1975 Le Mans-winning 2002. It has original Schnitzer flared front and rear fenders, a front air dam, a Turbo-style rear spoiler, polycarbonate rear windows, hood pins, TII front struts, and driving lights with Hella covers. It has new 13” Minilite-style wheels imported from the UK and wrapped in Hoosier R7 slicks measuring 185/60 front and 205/60 rear. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.

Interior

The interior cabin is stripped and replaced with OMP racing seat with new Schroth harnesses mounted to Sparco sliders. A full roll cage with door bars. The fire bottle was replaced in April 2024. All gauges are functional and include a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary for fuel level and coolant temperature. A three-gauge pod is mounted to the driver’s right that monitors voltage, oil pressure, and water temperature. Custom aluminum door panels, MSD ignition module, OMP suede steering wheel, Auxiliary gauges monitoring oil pressure, water temperature, and voltage. Seller just installed a new radio ($2,000), new antenna, and new Flagtronics unit.

Mechanicals

This 1600-2 Vintage race car has the M10 inline-four that was rebuilt between 2023 and 2024 and with an estimated displacement of 2.0-liters mated to a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission. The car is currently fitted with a 4.10 differential, with an additional 4.11 ratio differential included for tighter circuits such as Barber Motorsports Park. The seller states work involved machining the cylinder head, rebuilding the carburetors, and replacing the engine block, pistons, rings, distributor, connecting rods, and bearings. The engine is cooled via an aluminum radiator and features dual Weber carburetors with velocity stacks, tubular headers, and an oil catch can. The seller states the car produces approximately 200 horsepower and has seen only one race weekend since completion of the rebuild. The engine bay has a strut tower brace, and the battery has been relocated to the trunk.
