Story Behind the Vehicle

Intro

1982 BMW 528e in Baltic Blue over Black leather interior. This is a rotisserie, no expense spared, comprehensive restoration with some upgrades. It has OEM BMW Euro front and rear bumpers, grilles, headlights, taillights, and headlight wiper mechanisms. It has 17-inch forged ACT wheels with Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 tires. The engine is a 4.0-liter Metric Mechanic crate motor with a base tune completed by Kassel Performance mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The seller added 2500 miles since the restoration was completed 9 years ago. The front sport front seats and rear seats were professionally upholstered in BMW OEM black leather. This 528e has a clear title and is in Pennsylvania.

Exterior

Finished in Baltic Blue, this 528e build intentionally began with a slick-top (non-sunroof) 1982 528e chassis. The vehicle was then placed on a rotisserie, allowing every inch of the chassis and body to be addressed. The original Alpine White III paint was stripped, minor damage to the driver’s rear quarter was repaired and the car was fully resprayed in Baltic Blue. More recently, the trunk lid and fuel door were resprayed due to a scratch on the trunk lid and the replacement of the fuel door.

During the paint process, the car was upgraded with OEM BMW Euro front and rear bumpers, grilles, headlights, taillights, and headlight wiper mechanisms. (Note: headlight wiper arms and the correct reservoir are not currently installed.) All glass is in good condition and remains period-correct with factory markings. The exterior is completed with 17x8.5 (front) and 17x9.5 (rear) forged ACT wheels (three center caps included), wrapped in Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 tires 235/45/17 front and 255/45/17 rear.

The suspension has been comprehensively refreshed with Bilstein performance shocks, and H&R springs and sway bars. All bushings, ball joints, sway bar links, and wear components were replaced. The factory control arms were powder-coated, and the undercarriage presents cleanly and cohesively.

Interior

According to the seller the interior is a standout feature and a genuine time capsule, blending originality with rare new old stock components. It is upholstered in OEM BMW black leather with rare manual sport front seats and rear seats professionally recovered by Gary Macher of Newtown, Pennsylvania. His work appeared at Pebble Beach and other concours-level events. Additional highlights include new old stock dashboard, new old stock Euro headlight switch and additional NOS trim and switches where appropriate The original carpets remain in excellent condition for their age. All gauges and heating and air conditioning are fully functional.

Mechanicals

At the core of this build is a 4.0-liter Metric Mechanic engine sourced new in a crate from a fellow enthusiast and paired with Extrudabody individual throttle bodies (ITBs). Engine management is handled by a Megasquirt ECU, with a base tune completed by Kassel Performance. The car will benefit from final tuning to fully unlock the engine’s potential. Power is delivered through a new old stock Euro dogleg 5-speed transmission. Seller states it is a torque-rich, motorsport-inspired drivetrain that remains entirely street able and engaging.
