It's a rare car that was popular in the film starring Jeff Bridges, Tucker, The Man and his Dream. They made 51 Tuckers overall and each one of them is a pre production car. This Tucker is 44 of 51. They never got into production. They were meant to be shown at dealerships to promote selling production versions. Unfortunately Preston Tucker got in trouble with the government who thought he was a fraud in some ways because he was selling dealerships, luggage, radios and cars. Tucker eventually won his case against the government but he was underfunded and by then he was out of money.
The Tucker was very aerodynamic and had a lot of safety features. The Tucker was a front wheel drive car with the engine in the back. It has suicide doors and the front and rear seats are interchangeable. The dashboard is compact on the left and on the right it is all open. Tucker called that the safety chamber. In case of an impact the passenger would dive into it and be protected by steel. It has a 1938 pre select Cord transmission. You select the gear and then you clutch. I'm still learning how to drive this car!
