Story Behind the Vehicle

Intro

This is a 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEL long wheelbase four door (W126 body) in Black Pearl over Palomino leather. It is a two-owner car originally registered in New York and now showing just 51,783 miles. It has the self-leveling hydro-pneumatic suspension, dual horns and is current on all maintenance. It has a clear title, a clear Carfax with no issues and is in New York.

Exterior

This Black Pearl Metallic 560 SEL has the self-leveling hydro-pneumatic suspension, known as HPF III automatically lowers the car 24mm when vehicle speed exceeds 74 MPH, improving aerodynamics and increasing high-speed stability. HPF also adjusts the ride quality from hard to soft based on vehicle speed and road condition, improving comfort and drivability. The driver can even raise the car by 35 mm when driving over harsh/uneven road surfaces (only up to 50 MPH). It has 15-in wheels with Michelin MXV4 tires, headlight wipers, fog lights and sunroof.

Interior

The interior is upholstered in Palomino leather with wood interior trim, heated and power-adjustable front seats with a memory function, heated and power-adjustable rear seats, power-adjustable steering column, driver-operated antenna, air conditioning, cruise control, rear footrests with Mercedes-Benz carpeted floor mats. The audio receiver was upgraded to an Alpine cassette and CD player.

Mechanicals

This 560 SEL has the 5.5L V8 (M117) 238 horsepower engine which was the most powerful engine available for the S-class. It spins the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission and is current on all maintenance.

Imperfections

Passenger side paint touch up by windshield.

Summary

This 560 SEL has been extremely well maintained by a collector, everything works and the sale includes service records and the original window sticker showing a cash price of $58,013.75. The 5.5L V8 was the most powerful engine available for the S-class. Its 155-mph top speed made it faster than the Porsche 911 3.2 and Ferrari Mondial of the same year.
